I was not going to participate in this challenge after failing to take any decent shot yesterday. But after lunch today my 9 year old son, Havar, sat next to me, all sticky around his mouth, because of that black lollipop his mother has given him. I saw this opportunity at once and just asked him to come outside for a minute. This is not the result after family voting on the best shot. I am sure this is the best...

This is a great photo. The color (or lack thereof) and noise effect are a great addition to this photo. There are some parts that are a little overexposed, but still an amazing photo.
Partial saturation in the eyes isn't my cup of tea but... I totally love the high contrast, gritty, messy, and downright sticky feel. Especially like the deep black areas around the mouth, devoid of detail they have a slight 'horror' feel to them. Great portrait.
I'd like to see the colour version of this, the selec5tive desat makes his teeth look blue, but then some lollies will turn teeth blue. I love those eyes.
The image looks amazingly flat, I mean, not flat in the sense of no dynamic range, but flat in the sense of no depth. I think the grain is what makes it look that way, sort of like the same as images in a newspaper often look very flat. Those eyes are beautiful! ~6
I like the fact that the picture focuses on the boy and his gorgeous blue eyes rather than on the stickiness. It's is just part of the picture, not an obviously set up shot of a cute kid sucking on some kind of sticky candy. It feels more natural, and therefore much more interesting.
Wonderful portrait... excellent black and white. The post work and the stuff on his mouth give it an edgy quality you wouldn't expect from a subject and portrait like this. Great, 8.
