ok all kinds of darkrooming. shot this in the house at 800 speed without a flash at 1/25 and was very pleased. got lucky with only one out of about 25 that were in focus. and not too dark. brought this one back to life with a lot of dodging, then desaturating to avoid 'noise', also boo was standing in front of the floor heat lamp that gave off a wonderful glow. enhanced this by tons of saturation then selectvie lassoo around and median out the already blurred background to get rid of some more noise but careful enough not to lose sharpness of her hairs, then, sharpend, added frame and saved to submit. score guess 7.0 GO BOO!

boo boo. what happened? 3.3 above pre challenge guess. oops. too much processing and my monitor does suck when it comes to the 'highs' and 'lows'. it looks good on my screen. ha ha. junk monitor.
3 - Good potential, like the composition and colors - although do wonder if another color other than red may have brought out Boo's eyes more. Main thing in this image is the grain/noise/something - very dominant here to the point the quality has deteriorated. Also, sharper on the eyes, and possibly also nose/mouth/whiskers.. Could all be pp issues, not sure.
I'm not sure what you have going on in the background looks digital. The face is out of focus, and the exposure was bad - you just can't fix one this bad. On the + you did get a good expression. Keep trying pet photos are hard and if you don't have studio lights it can be a hard set up. You will find the black and white fur the hard to get right. Maybe you should try some natural light.
I am not diggin this - the focus is clearly on the eyes but it seems that the DOF is just too tight ... the foreground should be sharper IMHO ... The background doesn't blend well and goes over the line to distracting
