The rest of you, I suspect, will dock me for having such an unconventional pet.
“Poly X” (taken from the species name Papilio polyxenes or Eastern Black Swallowtail) pupated on October 28 and has been resting comfortably on my computer atop a soft bed of cotton. Yesterday (December 6th) he emerged and I placed him in my garden to dry his wings; where it was discovered that he is, indeed, a “He”. After the photo shoot, I logged on to see this challenge! It’s almost as though he was waiting for just the right moment.
I don’t mind that this shot will get hammered in the voting. I have gotten great satisfaction from watching this amazing process take place on my desktop; so much so that I have a fresh new crop of eggs hatching as I type.

I agree with Tim. I think its awesome that you took such interest that it captured you so completely. You know its good, what ever it may be, if it touched your heart. Kudos! as they say... haha
I was so pleased to see this image in the challenge. Really a shame that not more people knew who this was and what she had gone through to get to this place. There were alot of pictures in this challenge that I said "ooooh" to but this was the only one where I said "Yayyyy!!!". Great job and I am looking forward to the next round of Poly's!
