This is a rainspider that I shot using an Asahi Optical 55mm f/1.8 lens reversed in front of the built-in lens on my camera.
I let him/her go afterwards...

iam pretty sure in south africa these are pretty comon, i am having hard time locating big spiders/tarentulas like this around here. great macro shot. although i would have liked to see more of the spider.
Sweet spidy pic! WOW he has A LOT of eyes! I had never heard of a rainspider before this moment and now I simply MUST go and look it up :P I love the depth, clarity, colour, and focus! The crop is perfect IMHO because I like to be drawn to an insects' face and not be studying the rest of the body so much... good use of DOF is a nice way of accomplishing this too... as you already know :)
Thanks for all the comments and the votes. My highest score yet :)

It's a rain spider, here is a picture of the entire spider I took using the regular macro function on my camera.

YIKES!!!! That seriously creeps me out! I hope you had a really big lens from a safe distance! 8>)
The reversed lens macro setup has fixed focus close to the front the the lens (back element of the reversed lens), so the lens is very much in the face of your subject.

How many of those do you think it would take to make a nice fur coat? Great macro, it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up! 9
It's about the size of the palm of your hand, so you would a large number of them.
The detail in this shot is superb! I hate spiders, and this actually made me back away from my screen. :) Hopefully you were using a 100mm macro and not a 50mm. ;)
i like the DOF here, the tones, still, this could match other challenges as well, not sure it is that representative for this challenge in particular. So, technically speaking, 9, as per challenge, 3, average, 6
