 This was taken on a rather cold day in Cumbria, and the owls were all hiding from the wind.

I find the background to the owl a bit distracting. I also wish his eyes were open.... I would also potentially crop off a bigger portion of the tree on the right...and some of the top of the picture to bring the owl into the picture more. Beautiful creature though...

Wow, I love the color of the owl.. its a lovely purply grey. Excellent shot. Focus is good, I love the range of textures in the photo. Fits alone in general - the underlying solitude or loneliness feeling detailed in the challenge is missing for me. Lighting is good, though the bright spot in the lower right corner does detract. I think a tighter crop along the top, to get the break in the stone wall out would keep the photo together, also create a little more intimate atmosphere. That said this is a fantastic shot. Very well done. 8

Nicely composed. The concept of a daytime picture of an owl is a bit awkward though. I'm guessing it's in a zoo.

Good Points:nice cpature of rare bird ;) Good expression
Bad points:not enough enphassis on the bird, could be composed tighter.
