When the challenge was announced my first thought was the assassination of Robert Kennedy as I was born on June 4, 1968. But living in Memphis the easier representation would be MLK's assassination two months before I was born.
My mother has told me of the chaotic time that I came into this world. I can only imagine a 7-month pregnant women in a city filled with riots and hate. It is a miracle we (the US) made it through it.

Nice to read your notes. Such an enduring image. One that has special meaning for us all in one way or another - but one you can keep in your scrapbook for many future looks.
Were you actually born on that date? And, is that the actual balcony where he died? Very good photo. Well composed and exposed. I like your colors. Great perspective.
How did you get so lucky as to have those vintage cars in place for this photo? It certainly works well for the theme of your image. Good luck in the challenge.
Great 60's feel in this shot. Love the cars and the very 60's motel. Even the tones in the shot come across as 60's. I am confused as to what actually happened on that date. I can bring it down to a few possibilities, but sometimes I just want the quick answer. 7
