yes, yes, it is the same landmark church but it is a different angle than the B&W image. I don't see why this has caused such a bitter reaction in some folks, as I see the same landmarks and models used over and over and over and over here at DPC. So what if a little country church gets some play. Free Study is about the best shot we took this month. Well, this is my best shot this month. :o)
Many, many thanks to those who left encouraging comments. It's a huge honor to have ranked 4th out of 501!!

Another take on this wonderful little church. Enjoy the different perspective. (Wouldn't mind more). Heracleitus said We step but do not step into the same river twice. And it is for this more than anything he is remembered and quoted.
No idea why everyone was crying about this shot, maybe because they couldn't get a picture as nice as this one. Everything is virtually perfect in this shot, the free study IS about the best shot of the month, and this was def yours. Its odd but I think my favorite part is the fog in the distance, it adds enchantment. Nice job and keep up the good work.
Another great take on this beautiful scene. I love the colour version.
Thanks for the directions... I am going to try and get out this weekend to try my hand at shooting this lovely image. I only hope I can come close to what you have achieved here. Well done and congrats again on the high placing ... 4 out of 501 wow indeed!
what a laugh! ...i guess we should ask shannon why he uses plotter prints all the time, or ask manny why he shoots portraits of beautiful girls all the time, or larus why he shoots landscapes and women all the time...thanks for providing some fodder for the b!+chbag ;-).
That was a fairly rude remark. i happen to be one of the the dissenters on this one. This is nothing like Scalvert or Librodo or Larus. Those are unique works with similar techniques. This is the (basically) same shot. it is about the integrity of the site and the photographers. I don't believe it is about complaining, but more about the simple question: why? Raising concern is not the same thing as bitching. I would equally raise concern if it got a 4.5.
rude in the eye of the beholder. this has NOTHING to do with the integrity of the site. it's about how the voters react to images. simply put, THEY LIKED IT. there is no concern here, because if it had been the same shot, it would have been dq'd. and, if you don't like my examples, fine, but you're missing my point: those, and other winners, are here to COMPETE, and they do what they do to get high scores. if laura found a way that works for her, cheers to her.

Completely agreed. It's not just the same subject, it's the same angle and cropping. Essentially the same. My real question is what can you learn from just reapeating the same shot with no major changes? I'm not debating that it is a beautiful shot. It is.

My initial thought was similar to some regarding using the same shot again, but it isn't the same shot, and you are right about why not use your best of the month again - it's been done many times before, and will be done many times after this.
I loved the b&w and now this color verison is equally as amazing.
Congrats on your high placings on both shots, as they are truly magnificent.
No reason to be offensive to Laura for entering the same shot. Even though we can find it astonishing I have to say that the voters respond is more surprising. If someone is to blame for the high score its must be the voters. Have to say I like the b&w better. Much better.
what a laugh! why enter the same subject again?!? i guess most of the voters didn't realize it until it was too late ;-)

my first reaction was holy smokes, he pulled it off with the same basic shot--and nobody noticed. well, nobody but the 8 that really took offense to it.
thanks for providing some fodder for the b!+chbag ;-). enjoy your well-deserved score.
I don't understand why you did the same shot again?
completely agreed. Umm - Why? I have thought about it and it makes absolutely no sense. Unless you wanted to do a a color vs. b/w experiment...Hmmm....
It's a beautiful image Laura. Congratulations on the high placing. It's tough to come that close without winning a ribbon, but 4th out of 500+ entries ain't bad at all.
Love this just as much as the B&W version if not better. The tones are outstanding surrounding the little forlorn church. This is my pick for the blue > 10.
Going for the double? Or someone else shooting the same scene? Regardless, beautifully captured. Lawd knows I shoot the same things over and over myself :-)
I thought the black and white was amazing. The color is just as impressive...I have the black and white as my computer desktop at work. Everyone raves about it. I vote a 10, again.
Superb composition, great sense of depth, nice color-contrast, and very well edited. You have some quite noticeable artifacts which are probably from a combination of over-sharpening and over-compression (your file is 132KB, those extra 18KB would have helped). But all in all a very good image that will undoubtedly do well - 8
had to check this out as the Yellow for a recent challenge, fortunately was taken from a different position, but will not be surprised if this is challenged,I like your mood created in this image, and is the best I have seen in this challenge...10
Have I seen this one/similar somewhere recently? B/w?
Whatever, it works beautifully in colour - the lighting on the church is very dramatic and arresting.
The only thing I'd suggest is that the foreground gravel seems to be overly sharpened - i like the idea of it having a very gritty feel to it but flattens out the depth in the foreground for me. A more blended foreground may improve the flow in this area I feel.
Deja Vu... Wow - both of the shots of this locale are amazing. Giving the lighting & climatic conditions appear exactly the same, I'd have to guess this is Laura double-dipping on that ribbon winner. I might be wrong, but I don't care - this is also great rendition of that scene & I give it a 10.
ok? this is a repeat. the exact same photo almost. same title, same angle. same church, same everything...i'm really confused as to why this is in this challenge.
