Thanks for all your kind comments everyone. Apologies for not writing up a proper post challenge reply with all the shot details and such. Just got held up at work for the past week and writing this pretty much close to midnight and tommorow is another busy day.
I will try to post some details tommorow, but suffice to say there won't be a lot of it, because this one was pretty simple.
Originally shot in b/w.
Spot editing contisted of cloning out the slight black patch near the right side of the frame and selective sharpening. Perhaps I overdid it just a tad on the pen. This shot looks awesome in high res. I'm using it as the desktop wallpaper. I rarely like to use my own pics but this one looks too good ;)

I have NO idea what happened as I gave this image a 10 (even said so in my comments, but it shows up as a 1. Must have been some glitch. Anyway, I just wanted you to know that this image in no way deserves a 1. It was one of my favorites. Seriously have no idea how that happened. Weird. Not ruling out user error, but I certainly remember giving it a 10 twice (once originally, and once with the comments).
Compositionally well done. Exposure right on. Great lines and wonderful light. Normally I would give it a 9, but I have to deduct points because it's just too lifeless for me. I think it would be great as a stock photo. Still above average score from me.
Beatiful in its simplicity. A perfect example of black and white that presents a full range of tones in subtle harmony. This is probably one of the best photos I've seen on DPC. It's not too gimmicky, it's not grossly processed. I could stare at this for an hour and just let my eyes feast on the play of light and shadow. Excellent work and I hope this ribbons. 10.
