Pretty basic really, just filled a syringe with water and wrote H2O onto some vinyl. Used a polarizer to avoid reflections. Soft box from the left and a bounced flash of some black board behind the water drops.
This is not my idea, I asked if I could use the idea.

You know, I printed this out on regular paper, gave it to Melissa's 6th grade science teacher last year and she LOVED it! She still has it in her classroom and people are always asking her about it, LOL!
Deannda
I should order a real print for her, IF it was only available, hint, hint, hint
Hi Gary,
Coming back after 6 months break, I was not surprised to see your name under this Pic'. I showed your last works and I must say that you have ideas and a very very good technic. Since you got your Canon Cam, you
H'v got fly :) :) :)
Weiter Gary du bist gut!
Kiwi,
Both photos are amazing. U deserve a blue (2 blues actually). I love the Overpaint since the yellow is so vivid and and everything is perpect. Good job!
Kiwiness, I took a break from the site for a while and I come back today to see this. ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING! I litteraly said "WOW!!!" out loud. And you're so humble in your description of the photo... that's funny. Your attention to detail on the size of the drops shows just how good you are and how far we have to go to be at your level. AMAZING PICTURE!
Wow congratulations mister kiwi! You are on the ROLE! :) Dont stop! You should have sent a picture to the recipe challenge and get 3 blues ;) Great work!
Emm.... sorry... I think I don't believe it. What the very very identical "marks" on the drops?
It looks like Copy & Paste & Resized drops. But maybe I'm wrong... so if it's true sorry man, good shot. It's a water?
You are entitled to your opinion that's fine with me. In a way it is a compliment knowing I can get people to think I had to manipulate the photo to achieve this effect.
Here is one of the outakes I have that shows you that it is in fact very unmanipulated.
But where do you get your ideas - have you made a pact with the devil? :-)
I really don't have that much originality sometimes, if I don't have my own ideas I just get inspired by what I have seen elsewhere. I think most people here in DPC do the same.
How in god's name did you write that so perfectly? I actually assumed it must have been some premade thing that just looked like water droplets. The more I study it the more I just can't believe that was hand done! Heck, I'd have been impressd by the penmanship had it been written in pen, but those droplets are sized and spaced beyond perfection.
GOOD GOD MAN, your talent is absolutely demoralizing to the rest of us!
Well. Two blue ribbons on the front page at once. And your work is of such a consistently high standard - it really deserves it. I've said it before - my hat's off to you. But where do you get your ideas - have you made a pact with the devil? :-)
Excellent work, well done.
I don´t know what to say, i´ll been follow your work, and i think you're amazing good, if you´re not a profesional photographer, man, you're wasting your time.

Woohoooooo! Yassir. You should have seen my face this morning when I woke up to see this, wow. I'm in such a good mood I think I'll take the day off work today and celebrate. This ribbon means a lot to me because it is the open challenge, which I find more difficult to get a good placing in than in the member's challenge.
Thanks to all of you for commenting and voting. If you are anywhere near here today, come on over the beer is on me. Thanx thanx thanx, I love this game :-)
I was so impressed with your photo ever since I saw it for the first time. It is the best and I never doubt that it will win. Now, that it happened, it makes me proud of me too. I keep saying: "I knew it would win, you see? I've got THE EYE!!!" :)
Congratulations!
Wow! Simply amazing. Very effective, has a scientific formula, the color is strong and good. The light reflections in each of the droplets is good. There isnt anything bad to say about this really. My favorite picture of the challenge.
my favorite for this challenge, and i give up...i did my best but yours is so perfect for me...very creative and you amuzed and fascinated me..Great composition and i like the blue colours...Congrats...a perfect 10!
This is my favorite shot in the competition and I hope it ribbons for you. Only drawback for me is that the lighting seems to be unequal with more light on the left. Perhaps that was intentional. On pure presentation and creativity, a 10 from me.
By far THE best shot of the challenge and probably THE best shot I've seen since I've joined. I just can't understand how you managed to get the different sized droplets... cool. A bonified 10! Excellent work
I don't know what most people will think of this, but I really like it. Very simple but very effective. Perfect little drops of water. This is a great way to present water as a subject.
WoW! That's the best looking photo I've seen in a long time! How on earth did you get such smooth differences in the size of the droplets? Truly beautiful lighting too. The one catchlight makes it work. Hope you get a ribbon - hope you will sell the print. I think I've got a pretty good idea who you are too - I recognise the style and the colouration. Good luck. I've never given one before but...10
Top marks for some very nice designer script! You're in graphics right? Surely no other genre of work can yield such pedantic behaviour. ; )
I love this for its cheeky design, punchy colour and sheer unusualness in the challenge. It stretches the theme a bit thin but, frankly, I don't care right now! [9]
So simple and yet so innovative.
A creative way of showing both the substance and the molecular formula whilst still keeping visual appeal of final image paramount.
The precision (in size and position) of each droplet is amazing.
Nice lighting and colour saturation.

AWESOME! You have done a brilliant job with this one - The color, composition, lighting .. sharp focus AND theme - everything is right! I see a winner! 10
Although it only gives a nod to science, this is a superb photo and cannot be scored low. Very artistically arranged. It would make a great logo for a bottled water company.
Brilliant! I really like how you've got the droplets of water?? a) to stay in position and b) so uniform in their different sizes. Definately stands out, so neat looking. 10
Great idea. The blue color as a base really help to make the droplets pop out of the picture. Great contrast, especially the dark shadow of the droplets giving them mass. The white hightlight also gives the droplets more interest. Love the way the line across the "H" is curved and the "2" also. "10"
The best idea for the challenge, full marks to you for that.
I think the lighting could be better, but to be fair I don't know how, it just doesn't seem to stand out. perhaps becasue the shadows are so hard? I really don't know. Or even the dark area in the top right, but if removed you would lose some depth...mmm perhaps just right as it is! Great shot!
wow I can imagine how long this would take I'm guessing you used a hypodermic needle to get the drops so perfect a dropper wouldn't get those little ones easily a 9 for wow-ness
Exceptional! I love the consistent pattern in which the way the droplets change size...very unique and fascinating. Good vibrant color...well done! 10.
