Taken just outside the Peak District National Park on my way home from the office. A nice clear sky and reasonably strong moonlight are essential for this shot. The shot was nearly 4 minutes exposure whilst I ran along the line and fired the flashgun at each windmill in turn. The further down the line the less effective the flash.
Thanks everyone for the kind comments. I never expected this to ribbon let alone blue!!
PS Work:
Crop with perspective to fix the exhagerated distortion of the 16-35 when tilted upwards.
Levels to nail the black and white point
Curves to add contrast
Colour Saturation.
2 runs through Neat Image - remove ALL NOISE. This was essential as the image was very noisy.
Cloned out a minor communications tower between the 1st and 2nd windmills - not significantly changing the image, but risky in these new rules.
Added a layer in Softlight mode, filled with 50% grey and then painted black/white to dodge burn. This is where I brought out the faint movement of the blades.
Selective colour to make the sky blue rather than muddy blue/black.
Plenty more playing with the hue/saturation to get the right tone for the sky.
Dodge and burn the windmill towers using same technique as previously described.

I think this image is absolutely stunning Keith. A lot of thought has gone into this picture. I would never have thought of running down the line with the flashgun, let alone being able to!
WOW! The planning and effort you put into this Work of Art is so admirable. I can't stop staring at it. It looks otherworldly and peaceful. I would love to have this framed on my wall. Congrats on your blue!
A simply amazing image. You were well-rewarded for your vision and your efforts. I'm curious about how much illumination you would have had without the flash - by moon alone? Again, kudos. This photo is quite an accomplishment!
Great shot buddy, nice way to start off the WPL3 season! Go 5D! Don´t quite get using 400iso and f22, I would have used iso 100 and f8 for better image quality but what the heck do I know... :P Congrats!
I like the movement and the lines leading to the horizon. the illumination of the first tower is perfect. i wish the others were as clearly illuminated. still, a great shot.
now, this is a great shot ! great subject for challenge, blade blur is really cool. How dark was it? the stars are really trailing off and this has to be over 2 minutes at least.
I just love this shot, added it to my favorites, I did a little research and I think you've used this subject before, I like this version far better and if I'm wrong I apologize, still an amazing shot, good luck.
