I've been driving past this spot for the past week, and finally got a chance to stop and shoot today. I'm not perfectly thrilled with the result, but do feel it's a nice shot. I played a bit with converting to a fairly high-contrast black-and-white shot, but was unable to acheive the effect I was striving for. Well, perhaps next time!
Technical:
Shot under "Cloudy" W/B setting on my camera with an exposure compensation of -0.3EV to assist witht the sharp light. Adjusted the constrast and saturation slightly in PSE 2, cropped slightly, and resized for submission. Final step was USM at 150%/0.8/15.

I almost did this same thing, LOL! So of course I love the idea and the colors are wonderful, very much this time of year, the only thing I would have done is focused more on one tree, maybe gotten closer and came from below. Starting you with a 6, will be back to assess again.
