Alternate title: Butterfly #4,653. I'm betting this won't be the only buttefly in the challenge, but by gosh, it's the best shot of a butterfly I've taken thus far!
I was out trying to shoot this small section of trees that's slated for destruction in the very near future (more housing and shops!) and there are tons of butterflies feeding there. Also saw seven deer and nearly walked through a large spider's web which would have really upset both of us.
Post - converted from RAW with the settings the software chose; cropped, rotated 90 degrees, very slight levels adjustment, +10 in sat, smart sharpen, resize.
Same shot, no color:

Way to go Deb! Great finish for this beautiful photo! Top 25 in a challenge like this! You are definitely going to have to get off the Team Suck team! :)
Whoa! Awesome shot, excellently done. Love that bokeh, a nice balance between the tired in-your-face circles (see my entry) and the controversial shallow depth of field blur. Really well done, one of the best insect macros in the group.
I love the rich contrast of the butterfly. The bokeh is great. What hurts it to my eye is the flower in the foreground. It's hard not to be able to rearrange a natural setting particularly with a living creature that can fly off, at any second. If you could've done it perfectly, you could have asked Mr. Butterfly, "pardon me, while I remove this bloom in the way." LOL
