Taken at Eastern Point Beach in Groton, CT. It was not easy getting this shot. Not from a technical perspective, just timing. I knew early in the week that I wanted to get this shot, and what time I would need to take it to get the lighting from the sodium vapor street light. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to take the shot until the last night of the challenge. And, of course, it's raining. Between trying to keep the lens dry, and worrying about my young daughter sitting in the car, I only had about 15 minutes to set up and shoot, before I had to pick up my son at Cub Scouts.
I had taken this same shot during last winter on a clear crisp day. The sky looked much different, and came out a nice deep blue. The two captures evoke a much different feel, just because of the color of the skies.
Took in Raw, and converted in Photoshop. Slight image rotation to fix my crooked horizon, cropped tighter, applied a levels adjustment layer, then a color adjustment layer, then a channels mixer layer to get the right saturation in each channel. Flattened image. Finally, resized for web viewing, then sharpened. |
