The stump and brilliant leaves attracted me to this scene. But the lake and sky were in such contrast that I couldn't get both the sky/lake and the stump/leaves. Therefore, I set the camera for the stump and leaves, and did quite a bit of editing to bring the color back to the sky and lake. The resulting image is what my eye saw, not what the camera recorded.

This is really a lovely photo with wonderful colors. I think the score you received is a little harsh. Possibly some voters had trouble identifying a clear subject, which IMO does NOT detract from this photo. Nicely done!
I think you did a great job capturing what you saw - the focus (not the literal focus - emphasis may be a better term) is definitely on the leaves, their color, and the tree trunk texture.
Very nice color on the leaves, and the broken tree offers some interest. I feel as though the tree on the left may "close off" the composition of the photo some.
