Taken at my step-daughters wedding.
I was really trying to provide Shannon with a photo she could look at over the years that would bring back her feeling on her wedding day. She had to walk up this steps to the hall where they were married. She put together most of the wedding, including the flowers. Everything looked so beautiful including her and the roses that she was fussing over the day before.
Taken from the top of the stair case w/bounce flash off the ceiling.
My outtake
That was meant to be fun

I gave this a 7 which indicates more than a solid shot. 7-10 pictures, to me, are very good pictures. With that in mind, I'm not going to have too much to say because I like it.
The technicals: well done all around. Scores of 6+ don't have flaws with technicals very often.
The feel: The square crop works and I like the interesting perspective. Perhaps people reacted to that a bit in a negative way just because it's a little disorienting? I personally like selective desat. Not everybody does. I think you did well. If there is a problem with the technique, people usually keep the colors super saturated when they really want to desat them a bit.
The game: I'm not sure what to recommend to get this higher than the score you got. A border? I think a small, conservative border can actually help most shots.
Nice! I think if you had 45 degree angled and cropped this, it would have done much better. It's weakened a bit by her being "level" across the center. Great tones and overall capture!
5 - Like the concept. Lighting is nice. The perspective though, in my opinion, is distracting. Perhaps a rotate 90 degrees right, not sure - which might 'lift' the facial expression a little too. The curtain(?) on the right takes a little to decipher as there is not enough of it yet it is visible, so perhaps including more, not sure, but again, could just be this angle/perspective. The desaturation/toning works well, however the roses more subtle in color and processing, make this even better in my opinion.
unusual composition works well and the red with the black and white is a classic just the facial expression isn't really as expressive as the reat of the shot
Ok, I just literally turned my laptop on its side, and I do believe that you need to rotate this image! It would be much more dynamic. As it is, I love the lighting, her expression isnt the best, but I do like the selective desaturation. Great exposure. If it were turned, id give out a 9. as it is, 6. Make sure you rotate it, and when you do let me know so I can add it as a fave!
I think the angle is so high on this shot that it is almost dizzying. Stepping back a little (or crounching on the stairs or whatever) would have allowed her to look up without looking like she is about to fall backwards down the stairs. Very nice lighting and I like your b/w conversion.
i like the red roses with the black and white. The angle is a bit bothersome and the bride looks hungover. good contrast in the b&w though, her arms look great.
Beautiful image. The selective desat is nice, but I would be interested to see it with the greenery in color as well as the roses. Very interesting angle.
an nice attempt at doing something different from the standard wedding shot...selective desat rarely bothers me, but it's not often well received on DPC
