 Hurricane Isabel dealt a setback to the Monacacy Aqueduct Stabilization Project. Ironically, the galvinized steel structure placed to support the already weakened masonry during reconstruction may have saved it (150 yr old iron railings included) from total destruction.

I'm afraid I don't get it - unless that the fence which is supposed to protect has been damaged itself?
