Why blacking out the background? This could have been a pretty nice still life, but you turned it into a stock image. :( Also, the light from the right is too harsh - the stalk and some of the seeds are too bright, loosing the subtle semitones which are usually so pleasant to look at in this sort of pictures.
Great colors and composition. The shape and color of the stem adds a great deal here IMO. Perfect crop and great border. Well done - it's even on a newspaper - just like I do it at home! :) Back to bump to 8.
Nice, I like the setup and color especially the stem of the pumpkin, some of the seeds appear to be a little blown out but overall very nice and meets the challange. 9
