Taken on my way home from the Oregon Coast and and some time with Bear Music, StDavidson, and CharlieBaker. 'Twas a great time. I had been wanting to find something rusty and low and behold, on my way home on the highway was a restaurant called "Camp 18" which had a bunch of early 20th century machinery on display. There was lots of rusty stuff to choose from, this one was the best of what I took.

this is a really great image. very clever in the use of the forumla and Im going to take your word for it, little lazy to look it up. ---- Ok so I looked it up.. your right L()L, nice photo
the idea can be good but the focus isn't in a good side. the main subject is the chain and I think that the focus must be on the chain. An other point of view with other crop is better for this image. even need better details on the chain.
I wish the focus on this was deeper. I really like the approach you took for this challenge - it's original. Having foreground and background blur in this doesn't seem to quite work right. I hate to mention anything to do with angles when not familiar with the scene, but here goes anyway. ;^) Did you consider moving a little to the left to get that foreground object out of the way? Even if you could have gotten in tighter to just capture the chain, sprocket, and plate it would have gotten the message across. JMO of course.
Sorry for rambling. Best of luck to you in the challenge.
Actually, the oxidation of iron is 2Fe + O2 = 2FeO. Nice to see someone recognized that rust is a chemical reaction. Love the tight crop and the coloration is spot on. Bumping to a 10.
