Thank you all for your wonderful comments. The reason the shot is cropped so tight is because he is singing into a very cheap looking mic with a red plastic button on it... OK, maybe it isn't cheap but it just didn't suit him.. the grain is of course very deliberate... just not in his glasses... I like how you can see what he is seeing through the reflection.

I commented below on how I liked the photo, but wished it hadn't been cropped so tight and i gave you a 7. I just went back and read over the comments and realized that the glasses didn't have any grain in them. I liked that. I wish I had noticed it during voting I would have given you even higher than a 7. Very artistic.
Your crop/composition really works very well here.
Nice to see the image grain in a great black & white, when the trend seems to be smooth things over, even to the point of looking like plastic skin.
Only thing I could suggest would be having the crop in such a way as he is looking into the frame, rather than out of it, but then again it wouldn't have the smae feel. Nevermind ignore me, I'm a lunatic - lol
Well done!
The graininess of the portrait is offset by the smoothness of the glasses and the reflections within the lenses which is really effective. I like this .. its an interesting image.
Great close up and I love the 'film' grain. The only nitpick is the crop. My guess is that this was composed in camera and so there isn't much that can be done about the bottom crop (would have preferred to see more chin), however, I would've been inclined to crop the top right down to about an inch above the topmost brow to give more importance to the face. As it is now, I feel like I'm being presented with the subject's forehead and hair line first before being able to enjoy the rest of what this image has to offer :P
The crop is just slightly to tight. A little more of the microphone showing would have avoided that. It takes a second to realize what that is. Otherwise a great photo. Nice noise effect added...it fits well. 7
Wow, and whoa - this is so nice with the grain and the reflection in his sunglasses. It's too bad his pinky finger is so tightly cropped, but in every other way I think the tight tight crip works perfectly - very good!!
