what i like, is you resisted the urge (at least I am always fighting this), to mess with the eyes. I actually really love the hat. That's my favorite part. And the crop of course.
What awesome texture to this shot! It has a gritty feeling to it that works perfectly. The texture of his hat enhances the rough feeling of this whole image. Great job! :D
Fantastic portrait. I can just imagine the tall tales this gentleman could share. There is a certain almost sadness in his eyes that you managed to capture.
Technical: contrast, coloring, composition...it's all right on!
Creativity: I think it's very creative! i just love it...the expression is great...the eye contact could be anymore powerful!
Personal Opinion: ok i hope it ribbons!
Score:10
Wow - I really like this. Great character for a portrait - makes me want to know who he is and what his story is. Would love to hear what lighting / equipment you used.
God, he's got some piercing eyes. I wouldn't want this guy mad at me. Great job with the processing. I might have gone a bit easier on the sharpening, but I also know that I am incapable (so far) of making an image this good.
awesome...a ribbon contender in my book...can't fault it...It really has captured do much detail and a face that tells a thousand stories has t get full marks 10
Magnificent portrait. Intricate detail. Great capture of character. The Captain nearly comes off the monitor into my living room. This is a very memorable image that I hope catches a ribbon. "10"
welcome me aboard because this photo is really nice. this man has a great face and you really show the depth and detail of every line. his eyes pierce right through me. this is not just another closeup portrait. 10.
Great clos-up portrait with a nice pp style. Steve, is this your work? When you are not pawdrix, please take that as a compliment. I like Steve's work.
Composition: 8 - Tad too much space at the top imo, but otherwise, great.
Technical: 7 - The muted colours work really well, and the photo shows a lot of emotion, however I think it looks a bit oversharpened. Also, the shadows under the cap seem like a washed-out grey, as if you've dodged them a lot in PS. Adding a little more contrast just around the eyes would sort out that problem.
Creativity: 7 - A unique portrait since it shows so much character.
Appeal: 7 - The fine details give this photo its appeal.
Oh my! It is those arresting eyes and the lines on the face that just expresses volumes on the life of a fisherman. Gazing upon this portrait, I look upon the chiseled features that speak of life out at sea and I see a man/a captain who has sailed out on the fickle & sometimes harsh waters and returned. Wonderful capture, I sit here and I can almost think I can turn the page to read the National Geographic story that goes with this picture:-)
