Shot for an article about Justin Woazeah. Wanted something new and different than an archived action shot that usually gets used. Lit with a flash on a sync cord a few feet to my left. Vignetted the image, did some dodging and burning on his face, skin and the ball. Created two different layers of blur, one on the seats right behind him and a stronger one on the skybox. Sharpen and save for web.

15th, not bad for amatuer hour, especially out of alittle less than 700 pics, i,ll get down and catch a game sometime, letch you know when, maybe i'll show ya how to use that camera of yours...
Impressive photo! This picture tells and entire story. Definetly a good demonstration of a picture being work 1,000 words.
There are only two things that come to mind here. The helmet position does make it look more like a commerical ad. A player would likely have a helmet alongside themselves, as opposed to at their feet where it could get knocked off the bench. And, though you did a great job of isolating him with focus and lighting, the stadium comes across flat enough, that I could almost take it for a printed backdrop in a photo parlour.
Still these are two minor points. I really like this picture, and congratulations on cracking the top 20.
Great, great choice on the black and white! Nothing against the color version but the black and white just enhances the tones and mood of the image so much better.
Holy cow. I didn't get a chance to vote on this challenge, but this is one of the most spectacular environmental portraits that I've ever seen. A beautiful character study, as well as a fine art image. Congrats.
This kid will keep this image forever. Very nice capture very well done. Maybe a touch of levels/curves to allow him to PoP! more from the bleaches. But very nice.
The way the vignetting and bg blur works to focus attention on the main subject is great. Also the repetition of the stands adds a lot of depth, that way focussing even more attention on the person in front. Really like the choice for b&w and the quality of the tone and contrast. Only very slight minus are the very light shadows on the right and behind the helmet.
Very cool.
One of my favorite shots in the challenge. Very contemplative, emotional shot. Composition is great. Think using the stands for the background was a good choice.
Nice job, great lighting. The only suggestion and it is only a suggestion is remove the helmet from the shot. Helmet centered perfectly makes this look really set up. Someone contiplating something wouldn't appear quite as stagged. You have the expression in his face, don't draw my attention away from it with the helmet.
Oh wow, excellent shot. If this his senior shot, then he will love it. Tells such a great story. B/w was a great idea for this shot. It gives it so much more impact and makes timeless.
i really like this photo - it says a lot. Well composed good lighting. Could easily hang in a locker room witht the title of "determination" or "perseverance" "Dedication" any of the sort. well done 8. only thing I would change would be to clone out the trees in the upper left to gain some symmetry.
I really like the mood, perspective and tones in this! The symmetry is great - I just wish that is was level - which I find VERY important with a shot so symmetrical.
well, here the image work. there are only two small problems. 1) see in the lower side of the image it's obliquos perhaps for an incorrect position of the photographer 2) a bit over exposed on the top (on the righr where start the building) 3) in advanced editing you can clone out the tree on the left. I like the choice for an black and white. 8.
Really like this. Feel its tilted to one side but you probably have a million comments on that. Excellent portrait and the vignetting works very well here. Tonal range excellent and conversion well done. DOF enhances focus. 9 - good luck in the challenge!
Overall this is a great composition! I LOVE the position of the elements not to mention the poise of the model and he sits there holding the football and contemplating on a past game or a game about to be played (and I am not a big fan of watching sports:-) ). The expression on his face is perfect - he is lost deep in thought and the viewer knows that it is because he is getting his "head in the game". Lighting and B&W tones are spot on and fantastic on this photo. My only critique on this photo is that you could have cropped it closer. The building in the background behind him does nothing for the overall composition - it is a distraction. You want to keep the focus on your main subject which is this football player lost in thought.
