This is not a tree. It is completely shadows, and it captivated me.
I think I'll have to visit this spot again when I remember my tripod. The streetlights cast the most wonderful shadows all the way along this old building.
I was actually leaning against the tree that was casting these shadows, making sure to keep my elbows tucked in so I didn't make my own shadow, and hoping I could hold it steady enough to get something beyond pure blur.
p.s. I went downtown to reshoot this, and they've changed the lighting in the parking lot across the street, changing to something far less bright/harsh. Guess it's good for those parking and driving past, but it's BAD for making strong shadows! :(
Remember that you can bring your own lighting. Speedlights placed in strategic places, and gelled to match the ambient light in the area would allow you total control of where the shadows lie. You'd have to either use long PC cables or some type of PocketWizard radio flash attachment. Nice shadow tree!
Very neat! The thumbnail caught my eye when I bumped into your profile page. I love the colors in this! The shadows produce an almost 3-D tree there...a wonderfully weird effect! I think you could have a lot of fun with this wall, the free municipal lighting, and a few friends.
