I spent all day photographing photos of Unity Day Festivities. I had a darling photo of a friends little boy looking at a street mural and thought it was great. But then tonight in the final moments of the 12 hours of festivities I spotted this man in the crowd. If this doesn't tell its own story nothing would. Look close at in his pocket you will see a photo of a family member attached to his flag, he was there tonight and honoring his own family member who is stationed in the Middle East.
Even now as I look at this photo all I can say is I really wish I could go in there and spot edit that photo and flag. I had a glare from the flash on them.

I both love and hate this photo, I think. he makes a wonderful subject - meaningful, both proud and humble simultaneously, affecting, solemn, and questioning: especially in the context of a great number of the other shots in this challenge.
I find the title a bit annoying: but I think that's a cultural difference as much as anything - we're less inclined to such public displays of certainty in Europe.
Technically, however, I think it's a disappointing shot: poorly framed (cutting of the edge of the wheeel and the boot), overly and unevenly flash-lit, purely illustrative in its composition, and ordinary in it's physical view-point. It gives a strong impression of your having been content once you'd seen this subject to simply point the camera at him, everything set to auto, and shap one shot, with no further thought toward what might make imprvements on such a straightforward shot - a different angle of view, a wider or closer framing, or anything. So much so that for me it distracts from the imapct of the image quite considerably.
This is very emotional. The composition could have been better. His shoe and the front wheel on his chair should have been in the photo, but it certainly speaks to my heart.
subject matter makes a great statement that needs to be heard. the expression on this vet's face is priceless. add the flag in the pocket and WOW!.....intense.!!! this pic reminds me of the photographic genius of diane arbus. technical issues are not everything in the world of photography.
Great lighting. It really makes the guy pop out of the picture. I don't like the tinting too much. I think a straight b&w shot would have given it more of an impact. I see some really nice shadows and with b&w they would really shine.
This photo is a good attempt. Unfortunately, the cup draws the eye as a focus point due to its whiter appearance. This might have been more effective in color.
