Oh. A lot of people said they had never seen this before. Turns out that there are these ants who's role is to act as living food storage units for the hive, for use in lean times. They just grab on and hang, and their abdomens fill with sugary substance. If you look at the picture, you can see the 'access port' on top. It's like the 'keg's tap' :) ..

Amazing shot. Where were these? It's a shame about the top ant being cropped though. Nice DOF.

Holy cow! Aren't they something! Good capture. I'd like it even more if the top one was completely in the frame.

Definitely the most unusual looking insects in the challenge!

I think this photo would have a better feel to it if it were rotated counter-clokwise 90 degrees. Good close-up.

those are very strange, the color and texture work well with the light you have managed

Are these captive or just in the garden? Whichever it is quite some image.

The most interesting ant I ever saw. One amazing image. Nicely captured.

Where in the world do these guys live? I have never heard about them before or seen them. Wild. Great photo!

wow! I've never seen these before. Are those abdomens or some fluid filled sac they carry around with them?

This is a very cool subject. I have never seen anything like it! Framing may be slightly off, I'd like the overall shot better if I could see the second ant's head. Excellent Macro... good job!

Love this one. The angle makes it stimulating. Good luck!

Nice close up of an interesting subject. Not much to criticise here, but I can't help thinking it would work better rotated 90 degrees anticlockwise.

Nice Colours... Rich... I like the red-orange contrast against the gray.
