Yay! The blue. OMG!!! This is awesome. Thanks so much for all the wonderful comments. and great scores of course. 32 10's? Yowza! lol :)
I wanted to do this much differently but couldnt find ANYTHING I wanted in this tiny town so it got done all differently. :( I wanted a black and white tiled floor but there are only 6 tile choices around here none of which are solid black or solid white so i used a table cloth with back dots on it. wanted a wide brimmed black hat. couldnt find it, used the bad black wig. couldnt find a black and white large print dress. got small checks. etc. etc. everything was done differently than i wanted it. might be a 4. i hope not but i have a bad feeling about this lol. anyhow:
auto color
auto contrast
auto levels
cloned some hair to cover a small bit of her arm and fix a crease in the table cloth
curves
selective color
resize
guassian blur on tablecloth
merged layers
USM
selective color
burned part of mirror

THIS IS AN IMAGE I LOVED FROM THE FIRST TIME I SAW IT AND ALSO WHEN NOT AT DPC AND THINKING OF DPC I HAVE OFTEN HAD THIS IMAGE IN MY HEAD... REALLY I HAVE AS IT TOUCHED ME ON SO MANY LEVELS... FIRST AND FOREMOST JUST THE IDEA ITSELF BLOWS ME AWAY AND IT WAS THEN EXECUTED SO WELL AND GOT THE BLUE THAT IT DESERVED...IT ALSO MUST HAVE TAKEN A LOT TO TIME SETTING IT UP S IT COULD NOT BE BETTER IN ANY WAY... I LOVE THE IDEA OF SPOTS STRIPES AND CHECKS ALL TOGETHER AND THEY WORK AS IT NOT BUSY IN ANYWAY SHAPE OR FORM... THIS HAS TO HAVE MY NEW SHERPET JEWEL AWARD OF EXCELLENCE AS IT WAY OUT THERE IN FRONT OF MY FAVORITE IMAGES I HAVE COLLECTED. XOX
This is just "awesome", and I thought I had it in my portfolio, but I didn't, until now that is , as I am going to add it to my favorites right away, were it belongs.....
His Daddy was a simple man, just a red dirt Georgia farmer
And his Momma spent her young life havin’ kids and balin’ hay
He had fifteen years and an ache inside to wander
So he hopped a freight in Waycross and wound up in L.A.
Lord, the cold nights had no pity on a Waycross, Georgia farm boy
Most days he went hungry, then the summer came
He met a girl known on the strip as San Francisco’s Mabel Joy
Destitutions child born of an L.A. street called “Shame”
Growin’ up came quietly in the arms of Mabel Joy
Laughter found their mornings brought meaning to his life
Yes, the night before she left sleep came and left that Waycross, Georgia boy
With dreams of Georgia cotton and a California wife
Sunday morning found him standin’ neath the red light at her door
When a right cross sent him reelin’, put him face down on the floor
In place of Mabel Joy he found a merchant mad marine
Who growled, “Your Georgia neck is red but sonny, you’re still green”
He turned twenty-one in a gray rock fed’ral prison
The old judge had no mercy for a Waycross, Georgia boy
Starin’ at those four gray walls in silence he would listen
To that midnight freight he knew would take him back to Mabel Joy
Sunday mornin’ found him standin’ ’neath the red light at her door
With a bullet in his side, he cried, “Have you seen Mabel Joy?”
Stunned and shaken someone said, “Why, she’s not here no more
She left this house four years today, they say she’s lookin’ for some Gergia farm boy”
Great image. Odd that nobody commented on gaussian blur, which was a fantastic idea but kinda living on the edge with the "major elements" rule. Seems silly that you would have had to flap the tablecloth to acheive a similiar effect outside of photoshop, but I'm sure not as good a result. I hope the direction of the site has changed enough for you to keep this blue.
Rivoting. So many congrats!! You did so well on this one, and like I said...major creepy. Really suprised dpc so well recieved this one. I love it! Congrats on your ribbon!!! WOW
so many great comments. Thank you all. I cant believe a couple people pegged this as SCalvert's photo. talk about a compliment. now I have waaaay too much to live up to. lol. my current scores are not cooperating. :)
I knew you would get the blue by your discussions on the forums Crystal....YAY!!!! This deserved the ribbon and it's one of the most creative shots I have seen on this site...this will take you to another level and you will go from strength to strength...this is high class stuff...may you get many, many more of these elusive ribbons
Hot diggity!! I guess it was good you couldn't do it the way you wanted to, since it turned out great this way!! Way to go and HUGE congrats on the blue!!!
Quite the funky shot. I like it alot. And being one of the people that has no rpoblem with color being in the entry I think I would have loved to have seen a bow or something of bright red in her hair. Just a small piece of red somewhere. Anyways - cool shot - hope this does well for you. Bsck to bump. Very entertaining shot.
Hmmm these stockings look really familiar! ;) Great idea, pleasing composition, but the black in the hair is underexposed and you lose too much detail in it and looks like a big blob. Still this should be in the top 20 at least.
This is really awesome. Very creative. The only thing I might change is the placement of the subject. Less centered, leaving the middle of the image as just spots, might make for a stronger composition. 8
Very cool shot. I love the creativity here. Fun patterns and textures and interesting composition. Looks like a sweet little (jaded) youth? Maybe?? :) Excellent work. 9 from me.

Now that I've voted on all of the B&Ws, I'm back to bump. 10
this is nice... but it scares me :)
interesting environment you placed the ...thing in :)
-only thing is she doesn't look as if she is directly on the background. still floating there.
