Baker Beach, San Francisco
I had never been to baker beach and my search was to find new views of the golden gate, so I hope this meets voter's expectations for the challenge. I wanted to go much farther down the beach and get much closer to the bridge, but my girlfriend and I didn't find the way down to get there fast enough so we took an alternate route. A good thing too because the tide was coming in and this picture was from on top a rock about 30 feet up. If we had left earlier we could have walked in front of this rock but the tide rose so much that that option would have not been open when we would have returned and we would have been stuck.
The big flare is a search light on the bridge, my guess is to help out ships, nothing I could have really done about that.
Converted from raw saved as a tiff and ran through neat image. rotated a few degrees, cropped Shadows/Highlights layer, 2 curves, Selective color and a photo filter. I faded the opacity on the photo filter, selective color and one fo the curves. USM and flattened, resized and ran through neat image once more and save for the web.
Post Challenge: Thanks everyone for your great comments during the challenge, all 58 of them. Very excited to be in the Top 5 and 7 plus score. Thanks again.

San Francisco represent! My entry was from Baker Beach as well, but your entry was the best of all three from this beach. At least you missed all the fat naked people that sfalice and myself ran into when we were there during the day. Congrats on the great finish!
Great job! The colors in this are just breath-taking! The feel of the fog at night is extraordinary. It is interesting from corner to corner to corner. I'm giving this an 8 because it meets the challenge with technical precision and artfulness.
A beautiful long exposure, a little distracting to not beeing able to look at the horison in a comparison.... it looks tilted but I am not sure :o) good luck with this nice picture.
What a beautiful shot. There's something mysterious aboutt he serenity and natural beauty of the rocks here in the foreground and then the incoming, modern bridge further back. Works great to produce a lovely shot.
The mood of the fog and the water around the rocks in the foreground is mystical. The bright light below the bridge on the right is a bit bright. I really wonder if there was room enough to move slightly to the right to block the light with the rock face at the base of the bridge.
If my memory serves me correctly, I don't believe I've ever voted a 10 on the very first entry that came up - - - now that has changed. This image is stunning, I love the misty clouds at the first gate.
Coming back to add this to my favorites and bump the score. I really like it the softness, and the way the top of the bridge disappears into the clouds.
Wow!!! I know that's an overused word. . but what can you say. There is so much beauty in this one photo it just blew me away the minute I saw it. I love every single thingn about it from the colors to the softness of the water and the silhouetted rocks! The lights. It's just stunning! 10
Fantastic! Love the fog and the lighting! I smell a high placement here. then again, this is just one of the first few I've seen ;) Good luck and in my faves ;)
Very interesting treatment of a familiar subject. This picture could keep the eye busy for a long time, exploring all the texture and different qualities of light and colour. A 9.
Love the shot and its nice perspecitve! I was just shooting in this very spot(a week too early :( ) Did yo have to scale some cliffs to reach this beach or is it reachable from Baker? Good luck.
