I know it's been done before but I've always wanted to try this shot and this is the perfect opportunity to do so.
Bought a portobello mushroom and shot the underside using my 100mm macro lens with natural daylighting. I used adjustment layers for levels and curves to create dramatic lines. Used highlight and shadow as well at default setting. Dodged and burned and cloned out imperfections in the mushroom. Cropped to 630x630 and added a 1 pixel stroke. Enlarged canvas to 640x640 and saved for web.

Greeting from the critique club. Geeze as many ribbons as you have you still want a critique? You should be doing these not asking for them. I'm really not sure what I can do to help you better this shot. Nice focus, nice dof use, excellent lighting as well. COngrats on the Ribbon.
I gave this an 8. Liked the composition, color and texture. Just that 'bit' of mushroom was slightly distracting/out of place, in my opinion, but fairly minor anyway. edit: Congratulations.

Very nice shot. Has an almost alien like feel to it. The color and focus are excellent. Maybe a bit more macro than abstract but I didnt let that affect my vote. Bumping up.
Love the "rays" of the mushroom. Wish the top piece from the stem was not sticking out. It is slightly distracting. But otherwise I think it's beautifully composed and very sharp for a macro shot.
not too crazy about the big white thing on top but you have great detail on the bottom and...okay, the top of the mushroom is great - love the detail and the angle. The stem, except for the white part that cuts across my vision is great too. oh, what the hell - 10. I've always wanted to shoot one of these. Haven't gotten around to it... :)
I thought about submitting a picture just like this but didn't have time to set it up and shoot. It is good but I think you should have removed that piece that is sticking out because what makes this picture are the lines and that thing on top distracts our attention from them. I'll give you a 7 anyways.
