This is a follow-up to my shots for the Habits challenge called "Good Habits Bad Habits" This was a very difficult shot to set up. First I had to convince my wife(Nun at the wheel) and my teenage daughters to once again adorn the Nuns costumes and head out into public. Thanks to the models, but it was great fun :D
We tied up traffic on Yonge Street north of Newmarket. Their were a number of cars honking in anger, but who wants to mess with a van full of Nuns.
Hope this does well. I had to close down the aperture to f22 because the sun was so bright. I think we got a fairly nice blur.
Thanks for looking

The first three parts of this critique are written based purely on examination of your photo. "Final thoughts" is written after reviewing your score, photographer's comments, and voter comments.
TECHNIQUE Good, clean looking image with great color saturation, contrast; good focus and sharpness, considering you're probably shooting from a moving vehicle, and perfect exposure. Technically excellent.
COMPOSITION it's a little awkward the way you've cut off the back of the van, and a little of the open doorway, but I see the reasoning - trying to get the background scenery in for the blur, having the van appear to come out of the left and move through the photo. It has a very dynamic feel. The models are posed excellently, with an edge and attitude. I recognized this shot as your work immediately. Your girls - and your van - have appeared in some memorable DPC photos. Your composition is capped with a wonderful touch of humor in the title.
EMOTIONAL IMPACT The intent is clearly humor, and it's humor you've managed to communicate. I'd love for the expressions to be a little clearer on the facts, harkening back to the unforgettable "good habits, bad habits" shot from an earlier challenge. I can just see enough to tell that the same expressions are present here, but without the big impact that comes from having their faces so prominently displayed. So you can tell that my response to your picture is colored somewhat by my memory of an earlier work of yours. How does it play with the average, uninitiated voter?? My guess is that this would be a middle-of-the-road shot, probably in the mid to high fives. Clever and well done, but without the punch of the unmistakable DPC "wow" factor.
FINAL THOUGHTS Your comments were almost overwhelmingly favorable and only two outright recognitions of your previous work. Given the positive nature of the comments, I'm a little surprised at your 5.5 finish, though that's in the range that I predicted. Good work. This was an enjoyable image to critique!
Well, I thought this might be yours. Got that certain sense of humour. IMO worth much more in the way of points than you got... but, such is life at DPC.
This is such a cute idea! I love the hand gesture! I think there needs to be more motion apparent in the photo, and the sky should be adjusted so that it's not so turquoise/greenish.
I really like the idea. Not that I'm an expert, but I would have pulled back a little and brought the rear of the van more to the center. The nun in the back is a more central part of this than herplacement allows here. Still you got your concept across and met the challenge. Nice job.
This is absolutely perfect. I love everything about this shot. Perfect composition, juxtaposition. I think its perfect that the "nuns" are in the van and the thier faces are priceless. I gave you a ten for being so creative, and I never give out tens. I hope to see this with a ribbon on it!
This is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo the best in this challenge! I liked the humour, and that it met the criteria of this contest. The obvious effort that went into this photo shoot, the creativity of the photographer, the logistics that were necessary to obtain the pictoral effect, these are all reasons why this entry should obtain top marks. Way to go.
apart from the fact that most nuns i've seen are grey haired old biddies poodling around in honda civics at speeds that would make a motion blur shot impossible, this is quite creative. i do feel that the poses feel a little forced and unconvincing (i think a spaced out nonchalant feet on the dashboard would suit the vw hippy lifestyle more), and to be honest, a tiny bit irritating. also, i can't help but think the shot is washed in slightly too much shade; especially for the nun in the dark at the back... still, it's an amusing idea and it's nicely done. 7.
