Rule #1: Do not buy ballon's from Safeway ($2.50 for 8!)
Rule #2: Do not attempt to pop balloons with flour in them in a closed room, not good for health
Rule #3: Sounds triggers are amazing!
After seeing lumbardh's Fine Wine entry for Glass I was inspired to make my own sound trigger.
Two nights later and after much frustration I finally got it to work. Played around popping a few balloons and capturing the moment. Decided that I might then enter the motion blur challenge. So I headed up to Safeway to grab some more balloons (the only place open at 11:30pm who would sell them) and popped a few more. Here are a couple out takes:

This is really an amazing picture and sits well in your impressive portfolio. I am suprised that you have not scored a ribbon as yet, but am sure it will come very soon. Your photography is of a very high technical standard.
The balloon shot represents an interesting take on the motion blur challenge and this may have contributed to some low votes. Some voters can be very picky on what they expect to see.
The focus point on the tie of the balloon really helps make this stand out for me, although if I can offer any feedback it would be that overall the composition seems a little cramped. It might be nice to givce the balloon a little space to expand in to.
Keep up the great work. This is exceptional and inspirational
Wow, wow, wow - what a capture! This looks very complicated to do. Hope you write about how you did it afterwards in the photog comment area. Even the title is perfect.
What an original capture. Would usually expect this to shot in total stop action style where there's no blur at all but this has a totally different effect, which I really like. Great work.
It's a very imaginative picture and I gave it one of the highest marks. I think, however, there's room for improvement: can you make the remnants of the baloon a bit clearer and the needle more basic, so the complex form of it wouldn't take our attention. In fact, it took me a few moments to realise it's just a pin, not something else. But, again, a great picture overall.
I like shots like this. I love to see explosions captured on film--so amazingly dynamic. That being said I think this one should be a bit sharper (ie the shutterspeed maybe was a bit slow), it would be better in my mind to see the plastic rupturing rather than just see a shadow of it.
