Wow! Thanks you guys! I was totally not expecting to be in the top 5!! I'm excited!
This photo was kind of a lucky accident actually. I was at the zoo with my lifelong friend TheresaA showing her how to use her brand new 20D. We almost didn't go because it was pouring down rain even as we got there.
While we were there, I was totally focused on her and her photos. When we went into this bird aviary, I was more or less killing time while she practiced. . .and voila. . .this little fellow called my name and there you have it :)
Thanks Theresa for talking us into going in the rain :) It was SOOOOOOOOOO worth it!

Beautiful, enduring, valuable image. I gave you an 8 at the time but it keeps on coming back for more - like your recent win with it. Nice work. You're always an inspiration.
I can't believe I forgot to give you props and congratulating you for such a fantastic finish on such a beautiful photograph. You are a pro behind your lens, and your edits are excellent. This has to be one of your best ever. Congratulations my friend!!
girlfriend, you just get BETTER and BETTER and BETTER...so when I come to dah 'riverwalk' ya gonna teach me how to use my "OLD" 20D?lol
hugs and congrats to a very deserving lady :-)
Boy, I missed this one in the challenge. The colors are amazing here. This is a picture that could easily be used in some national add for Canon printers or the like. Very sharp too. Congrats on the green ribbon!
Beautiful shot Sandy! VERY well done! The colors are so rich and full. The detail on your subject is excellent. I love the composition and the crop you chose. Very nice lines and balance between subject and the background. You definitely nailed this one perfectly! Excellent work! Just added to favorites. All I can say is the 1/2/3 votes must have been from people who were jealous because this is simply gorgeous!
Very nice Sandy. Love the detail in the bird and the angle he comes into the picture at. Unlucky to miss a ribbon but 4th is still great and well deserved.
Sandy...I am so sorry that we scored the same at 6.901 and I got the ribbon. I guess they have a system that they work to to decide who wins based on how many 10's or whatever...
You really have a worthy ribbon winning entry here. The colours and bokeh are fantastic. I love the red. Well done on your forth spot...
Sandy, you are so good! Congratulations on a wonderful, colorful image - that was a perfect zoo day, after all :-) I love the colors and crispness of this little bird.
Cannot believe it, as you "so" deserved to ribbon with this shot.....
Just look at your score, and coming fourth is "fantastic", out of 430 entries Sandy.....
I am just so proud of you dear friend, and your average is always increasing, well done..... I am adding this image to my favorites as well.
Wow, It does not get any better than this! The composition, vibrant colors, post processing, and incredible detail of the bird (I swear he is looking right at me!) are all impeccable. Wonderful Bokeh image.
OMG I have this same photo. EXACTLY. Your Bokeh is a little better than mine. Ended up not using it because I was lacking a catch linght in the eye and the bird lacked life. Great job.
Red Lorikeet?
The colors of this photo are just awesome!! The beak stands out great against its purple compliment and the rainbow lori in the background is terrific! Its great how you dont notice it right away.
I love the way the red in the background echoes the shape of the birds body in the foreground (that looks like a wing, not sure). I also like how the wing helps bring your eye to the edge of the photo.
I love this photo, it has a great feel to it (I love birds too, though, so you get extra points for that!) 10!!
What a stand out. That tack sharp eye with the glint of light - wow. The purple and red combination is killer! I like the diagonal line of it too with that little guy popping up out of the upper right corner, as well as the blurred line behind him on the left. Great job.
"WOW" factor here as I just love the strong colors.....
The "Bokeh" is also excellent, and the bird is so strongly focused.....
Well done, and I give you a "10".....
Striking colors and tack sharp. The bokeh is good but the background in general is a bit too busy for me. Still the image is really good so it gets a 7 from me.
