this was set up on a table in my study. I hung a piece of blue paper from a pvc frame (about 10 ft from camera), poked 5 holes in the paper with a pin for the "sun" and single holes below that for the "reflection" then shined gold flood lights from the back through the pin holes. There was a black "mountain range" hung about 6 inches in front of the blue paper and another gold light shining on the left uper corner of the blue paper. I placed a piece of glass with ripples about 2 feet in front of the lower 2/3s of the paper so the lower bokeh lights appeared like a reflection. I shined a flashlight on the glass to get sparkles in the glass to make the smaller white bokeh in the front lower section. The out of focus cattail leaves were a few inches in front of the glass and the in-focus cattail was about 2 feet in front of the glass. Again, tha nk you for all of the kind comments and special thanks to my brother Steve, (pointandshoot) who has taught me almost everything I know about photography and thanks to my sister Marjory (aberration) for all of her encouragment and support in this hobby.
Here is a a picture of the setup although it is so busy I hope it can still be of interest.

Great shot... clarity is beautiful.... the edit is because I thought it was a real scene as well... take that Pixar, Disney and LucasFilm - this puts them all to shame!
So beautiful...looks so real...takes a bit of the magic away knowing the secret...wish I didn't know...but well done all the same...a good photo is a good photo
wow...thanks for sharing how you did this as it looks like you shot it on a balmy night near the Nile River!!! you put a great deal of effort into the shot and deserve the ribbon
wow. i loved this image before i knew how it was done, but after reading the set-up i'm simply amazed. didn't see that coming at all! congrats on your ribon...beautiful image!!
Etymologically, as I'm sure you know, photography means 'drawing with light'. After reading the description of your set up here, I just have to say that you're a photographer. Congrats.
I like this one a lot. Great composition, lighting and colours. Great foreground subject and a nice background in the Bokeh. Well done and congrats on the RED.
Even more impressive, knowing what went into creating it. This shows how great a knowledge you have of the technical aspects as well as the aesthetic. Congrats :)
Congratulations Marla on an excellent shot...you should do really well in the flower challenge as you do them really well...this really captured the whole BOKEH thing well...from the guy next to you in third place!
Beautiful image. This one really works for me. The focus is tack sharp. The lighting is suberb. The bokeh adds all of the mood to the photo. Great job 10.
beautiful shot - is this for real? it looks so perfect - nice composition you've got going here! Talk about aligning the stars! This is part of what bokeh's all about I think!
This is really pretty! Has to be one of the tops in this challenge. Striking colors and composition, and that bokeh light and blur are just stunning! Fantastic job!
