The shining light on the leaf bothers me and distracts one attention away from the insect.....

Needs to be sharper on the bug. Can't do it in post processing because that will make a lot of pixelization, which is what the image ended up with. Need to do it at the time of the shot. Sometimes when I focus I move my body back and forth until I get a nice sharp focus in the monitor, then take the picture.

I think if you had followed the rule of thirds you might have got a better picture, positioning the insect in the centre makes the photo feel very static.
