the toque,rifle and powder horn are all hand made. ..the rifle was handmade by a friend( a tool and dye maker)and it has an octagonal barrel and brass inserts and inlays,maple stock and some handcarving on the stock. The trading blanket is an original 3 1/2 beaver and is at least 70 yrs old. The powder horn was traded for at a rendevous 18 years ago.

I really like the close cropping used in this shot. I would have liked to see a little more of the handmade gun and horn though - you spoke about them lot's but they don't grab my attention in the photo. The colour is great and the background is good. Using an older subject definitely helps meet the subject "The Past".
This is a lovely photograph - I especially like the way it's taken against the stacked firewood, a perfect background for the tone you're creating. The wrap is an especially nice touch, drawing the eye back to the man rather than letting attention wander too randomly about.
