Ok, so my goal really is to make all my self portraits look different. This one was meant to be a dreamy, almost unreal kind of look, since this is NOT how I normally look at all.
Editing...
I cloned out a piece of a towel holder that was sticking out from behind my head, and a couple other small white specks in the black areas. soft glow, sharpen hair, eyes and lips, desaturated some, take left over red out of the lips. that's all. I'm very limited on editing software.
I thought about not entering this time around, becuase I don't think the voters will like my shot, but I like it, and hope to get some good advice on editing, since I don't do a lot of editing usually.
Thanks.

Wow, this is top-notch. Maybe you should stop wearing your glasses :p
I like the post-processing you did on this. The dark look and all.
Makes the person look mysterious. Nice work.
p/s: if only you could make crayolas look as good as this ;)
Beautiful image Heather. I totally agree with Pedro's comment that your processing has developed and improved a lot over the years. This is your best work to date and a well earned top 10 placing!
Congratulations, Heather, on a great finish and a great score. Normally you'd probably have a ribbon for it.
But .... you don't quite look like a kindergarten teacher to me :)
Not the 'teacher', I am a teacher's assistant or sorts. The kids get a kick out of my hair. I'm like a science project. "what color IS that?" and "name the newly discovered color". lol They love me.
Congrats on your finish! Very deserving. Well done composition and processing. Very strong expression that suits the applied processing extremely well. Great shot!
Beautiful! Everything is so nice about this photo, and you look wonderful in it. Great lighting, especially with a single flash, nice post-processing that isn't overdone and great expression. Congrats on a well-deserved finish. Welcome to my small list of favorite photographs. This one is really nice!
I've waited for this moment for FOUR LONG YEARS people!!
Top 10 baby!!
So this is how it feels.
Thank you all for the comments.
About the lighting, I'm afraid it wasn't as impressive as some of you thought. Totally dark room, with, get this...FLASH! Ewww, I know.
Anyway, Thanks again.

I just love this one! Everything, eyes, hair, nose and its shadow, those lips! Technically perfect! It could go in a book on how to make a portrait.
Congratulations on the 10th place in this very tough challenge. And thank you for submitting after all...
K i'm finally back for the real comment. what i was going to say was that I thought your editing has improved over the years. I recognized you right away, but you have made an interesting metamorphosis since back in the early days when your only comment about your SPs was that they made your nose look big. :)
one of the things i'm beginning to dig about portrait photography that seems to have taken me forever to figure out, is that you get the chance to become someone you're not - you can tell a story via the image, and there's no need to back it up or validate it. (if I'd been paying attention earlier I could have learned this looking at the works of people like Alecia, Kiwi, and Nasti...but i'm not all that perceptive it seems). So even though the setup of this is very similar to the last SP challenge with your high-key (then) new red hair, the two shots have very distinct looks, and that my dear is cool.
so good on ya. keep working on the processing...it'll come over time.
your self portraits are gonna dominate your profile!!! it is a sweet pic, tho- it really deserves to :0) ...for a sec I was thinking is this really her? so I went back to check one of your pics but didn't even need to click on one- your title gives it away!!! :0P
Wow! Stunning model ;) I love the darkness of this shot. I think the soft pale and smooth skin tones work very well in contrast to your makeup and outfit. I like the hair falling over one eye, and that you have catchlights in both eyes. I think the crop works well because it has a closeup and personal feel. Excellent job.
Pretty yet seductive. Love the softness. The intense contrast is beautiful with that hint of skin tone. Great image. I'm coming back to this again and again. Bumping up to a perfect 10 - it is truly magnificent.
Gorgeous. I like the softness - even though some will complain about overdoing it. Not a fan of the collar but that's your thing, so I'll get over it and give you a... um... 9. Your gaze compels it. :)
Very nice, I like the use of negative space, I also think the glow around your face really works here. You are a beautiful woman and should be very proud of this shot.
