this one is absolutely my favorite. i was on a short break from my work and i saw this old woman just sitting there on the wall of the church.
i was in guatemala volunteering with an american dentist. this woman was 73, and she had never seen a dentist before in her life. her teeth were so bad, the doctor told the translator to ask her how she manages the pain, she said "it's only pain"
the thing i like best about it is that she represents the whole culture for me. she's old, but strong. she's wearing this rich vibrant cloak, but her background is dull. they have a very vibrant culture there, but their atmosphere is nothing but dried baije stucco.
