This image was taken in 105 degree heat on an early morning drive through the Sonoran desert of southern Arizona near the town of Ajo just north of the USA/Mexico border.
I drove about 150 miles taking pictures and looking for "desolation". This was the best I could find.

This does capture desolation for me. Very well-taken shot - you\'ve chosen the right time of day and a great viewpoint. Good luck - should do well. [9]
This looks like my neck of the woods. Very nice shot one of my top 10. The shadow makes to composition by leading you through the photo off into the desolation. Hey this would have worked for Right Angle too. Nice Job :)
Yes, this is desolate. Not many people understood the meaning of the word, I guess. Nice detail in the trunk and I like the shadow. Nice work, good luck.
Excellent image. Great detail in the wood grains; the form of the shadow is composed so that it is a strong element and leads my eye to the mountains. It all just works very well for me. Nice job.
This is very beautiful! I would like to see it in color just for curiosity if you got a colored version of it? But its very nice in B&W. Love the shadow here and the contrasts Great desolation picture!
Great shot, fits the challenge like a glove. NeatImage might do something for the sky, but on the other hand, it looks good a bit grainy on this beautiful B/W. My favorite yet in this challenge
This is one of the few shots that actually comes close to feeling desolate to me. Very nice job with your camera and your dictionary :) I'd like to see this in DPCPrints later...I'm a bit fan of it. AZ?UT?NV?
