Subject between two mirrors and floodlit. This was more difficult to accomplish than I had imagined. Note that the camera is not visible in the shot. Positioning of the mirrors, subject, lights, and camera is critical to achieve this effect. I love the basket-weave effect in the toy! Image cropped, levels adjusted, resized, USM applied.
Thanks to all for your encouraging and helpful comments!

I have an idea how difficult this is because I have toyed around with this sort of setup in the past. The first thing I saw in this pic was the lack of camera in the shot. That's tricky! Mirrors can be really fiddly like this.
I didn't even notice the basket weave in the slinky, but after reading of it in your description, I noticed how great it looked alternately reversing in the mirrors too... very cool!
At f/8, it looks like you may have encountered some softness inherent to diffraction limitation. Tough break shooting the P&S on this one...
That is one of the single greatest reasons I knew I had to get a DSLR.
I find that on my S2 (which has a very similar pixel pitch and crop factor to the 8800), anything past f/5.6 starts to get a little soft... At f/7.1 and 8.0 it's quite noticeable.
I recently found a chart with hyperfocal distances for my camera and I think that will help a lot.
Try a google... My hyperfocal distance can be as close as approx 5 meters (if I remember correctly) at f/5.6 which isn't too bad with a bit of zoom...
Something definitely worth researching as this can definitely help with shooting long DOF while keeping your diffraction effects at a minimum!
Visually very interesting, full of easily seen contrast. Greys of wall and frame against neon rainbow slinky, flat wall and wood against slinky spiral web and complex frame pattern. Light and shadows.
I wish it were clearer in focus. I have the feeling that even the nearest slinkies aren't at center of focus, and me, I would have aimed for either the real slinky closest to the mirror, or the first reflected slinky. Some slinky should be crisp and clear.
This is a very cool idea and well done. I think it would be a smidgen more apealing if you had covered the box with black fabric - making it a little less busy. Overall, this is one of my favorites for this challenge. Nice.
One of my two top picks. My only complaint (a very small one at that) is the frame on the mirror. Takes away a little bit from it all. Great idea and the colors on the slinky work great all the way through. Good job and bumping up.
