I took this in my front yard at about 5pm, so I could use as much sunlight as possible. I actually picked a growing leaf off of a bush and put it in some rocks. After that, I just shot from different angles and hoped for the best. This is not artificial DOF, it is natural from the lens. I was surprised that I could get such a shallow DOF from my P&S camera.
Editing was as follows:
- Levels
- Saturation adjustment
- USM
- Neat Image
- Cloned out a weird looking rock
- Raised brightness on leaf
Hope this does well and I'm sorry in advance to team FZ. I don't think that this will top out the Icelanders in color portrait, but we'll see.

GOOD title! I'd have liked to see the rest of the shadow, so perhaps would have reconsidered the isolation that comes by putting it "smack-in-the-middle"... but I like it a lot!
It lacks interest, mainly, I think, because of its centering. Cropping more from the left would encourage the eye to follow the sweep of the leaves toward the right. I'd try cropping about where that dark zigzag runs. Maybe a little fiddling with colour to reduce the yellows in the plant some and let the green pop more?
