I love elephants so much! You probably already know this, but they have very sophisticated emotional systems, like humans. They mourn and grieve. They cry. Laugh. Comfort each other. They are amazing animals.
When I came upon this particular one, there was a crowd of people at the fence. He had his butt turned towards everyone, was swishing his tail at them, saying loud and clear that he was NOT going to look at them, so they all walked off. I stayed for a while there all by myself, just watching him, admiring him, when all of a sudden, he turned around & looked me right in the eyes, walked up to where I was standing and posed for me. I swear, he was feeling how much I loved elephants. I don't know if this will be well received. . .or flop. . .but I really love the photo. . .and I love that elephant too. . .who is quite old. They can live to be over 70, but they tell me this guy is nearing 60.

Unfortunately I didn't get to vote on all entries in this challenge. This is a great shot. Full of contrasts and opposing feels. Age - or oldness - seems apparent. What really strikes me is the difference between the top and bottom half of the shot. The top seems so smooth and graceful in a way. The bottom is rough, rigid. Very nicely composed and the tight crop really helps him/her to stand out for the full frame and not just part of it. Nice job! Great image!
"Wow", what is wrong with everyone, as I don't understand how and why some really good images get such low scores, like twos and threes.
I love your connection to animals, as you can see by each and every animal image you take, that you not only connecting with them, but also love what you do.....
What a wonderful entry! Straight out of National Geographic. How on earth did you get this amazing elephant to look right at you? You were able to really connect with him. Wonderful; composition, crop, subject, focus, detail, and lighting. Extremly strong image!
Great capture - look at all those lines! This is such a nice crop too, even if I can imagine that you might get comments suggesting other ways to crop it. For me this just brings my eye directly to the elephant's eye, so we're looking right at each other.
Excellent detail, focus & composition. Fits the challenge perfectly. Nice job!(10) One other comment...I hope when I am almost 60 that I won't be considered "Something Old". :)
