I decided to go to a waterfall in Kanuma, a picture of which I had seen in a tourist brochure from that town. It was pretty remote, being up a mountain road. In fact, it was a dead-end road that was narrow and, in some places, precipitous. Plus, the road was covered with fallen rocks, hence the warning signs about falling rocks. And for some reason, people go up there to dump rubbish, though I wonder if I was the first person to go there since autumn.
There’s a little bridge over the river and then a small turn-around area (er, carpark). Above the carpark is a fork in the river. I first went up the left branch, which was quite narrow and ultimately impassable. The right branch was much wider but perhaps less dramatic. Still, I took lots of pictures, varying exposure times and lenses.
I was going to return home but decided to check out the river below the bridge. There, the sides of the ravine were steep and slippery, but there were trees to hang on to. I was surprised to find the top of a long drop. I went down the side, as I could see a couple of route options. In the end, I somehow took the most direct course and slid down about 10 or 15 metres, accompanied by a whole lot of rubble. Fortunately, I didn’t break any limbs or camera equipment.
The waterfall proved to be about 30 or 40 metres (I don’t know – I’m hopeless at estimating heights) – not very wide, but pretty. More photos.
Now, to get out of the place. There was a rope, which was very useful, but it didn’t reach the road. For the rest, it was a very steep climb on loose rocks. I finally made it to the road, got back to my car and drove home to wash the dirt out of my trousers.
I never saw the waterfall that was pictured in the brochure. (Because, as I later found out, I went to a different waterfall with the same name - Otaki "Big Waterfall" - about 8km SE of the one in the brochure)
My entry photo is of the bottom of the long drop. My lens had an ND4 filter, and I held a polarising filter from my other lens in front.

This is quite original David. I'm bummed it scored low. It's a 50/50 chance you could get eveything in focus. Maybe a smaller aperture at f11 or so would have made everything in focus ;) Great out of the box entry my friend ;)
good effort, but I wish you could see the fingers just a little more and that they were slightly, only slightly sharper...as it is, it almost looks like a mistake...10/10 for the title though
