First of all I don't think you should say this is a "poor attempt". It causes the voter to think it is not a good photo, look for flaws and perhaps vote you down. I like the patterns and the colour. The left side is a bit distracting and out of focus. Maybe if you had cropped that off.
Never ever title your challenge 'poor attempt'...you leave it to the viewer to stretch their imagination even further as they (those that do read titles) start with a negative perception.
It is a little bit on a darker side, at least it comes across that way for me.
Hey, is that a bathmat or a car mat? ;D Good focus - after the challenge, all this needs is one funky filter of some sort and it will be totally psychedelic.
