Composition - This is not what I would've expected for Fill the Frame. It doesn't make it right or wrong, just what I think. I think that the general composition part would work for this photo, if it were more focused. I wouldn't consider it to be an award winning composition, but one that definitely has more potential that 3.9. The colors are pretty good, maybe a little bit orangy for my tastes. I'd have put the center of the flower slightly more to the right.
Technical - This is the part that really gave this poor flower a hard time, focus. You pretty much always have to have crystal clear focus for most everything you do on DPC. So that was a big problem that the voters found with this picture. I can't say I blame them, it isn't a solid picture. That one element would've probably added a point and a half to you score, just being in focus. But alas... The exposure is pretty good, just maybe a little short on the shutter. the F# tells me that there would be more than just a little shallow focus spot in the center, if it were in focus.
Overall - The lack of focus really hurt this picture. It would've worked much better if it were tack sharp. This soft, almost no pictures on DPC fare well. Hope your next endeavor comes out better. Good Luck - Bob
This kind of shot just has to be sharp and in focus. Composition is also too central and would be more effective if you panned over to the left and slightly upwards.
Composition: I would have preferred the flower centre to be on the top-right third intersection.
Technical: Unfortunately the eye is instantly drawn to the flower centre, which is slightly out of focus.
Meets challenge: Some people may mark you do for being able to see a background.
Overall impression: Nice subject, but somewhat lacking technically.

It seems like your focus was right on, but either the flower was moving a tiny bit or you weren't using a tripod, perhaps? It seems like there's a tiny amount of camera shake that's distracting. Other than that, it's a creative angle and a beautiful subject, and you did a great job filling the frame.
I like the composition and from the thumbnail this looked very good. I find the focus is a little out tho, or maybe there was a little camera movement when you took the shot?
