The following post-editing was performed on the entire image: Cropped, lightened, increased saturation, Noise Ninja for noise and a little sharpening.

I absolutely love your idea. Composition is fine. The picture looks a little dim and murky, particularly the sand. Perhaps some sharpening might help. I felt that you set this up well enough that the note near the shoe is not needed. Very creative take on the challenge, bravo.
Interesting idea. Since "Footwear" is the challenge, more illumination on the shoes would be better - try fill flash and/or level adjustment to bring the shoes out of the darkness.
