I will share the story of this photo. Basically headed down to the beach once I realized the morning was incredibly foggy. Once I was on the key, I couldn't even see 50 feet ahead of me. However, after just shooting random foggy shots (and getting my camera soaked from the moisture), the fog started to thin. I then came upon a group of children with there parents playing in the sand and scaring birds. This child was simply captured at a superb moment. It is funny, I don't really utilize my burst mode even though I am always set to that. I don't take a lot of photos. Took 14 throughout entire morning. But I try to take the time to compose, while not intruding on other fun.
Anyway, that is why the colors came off so pastel and muted. The boy I bumped up some saturation and lightened up the whole image to give it that dreamy look. But, I must say this was the first RAW photograph that I have ribonned with. Even though I have been soso about RAW, I now shoot that exclusively for the processing power that can be done within PS RAW. So there is a little info......

This is such a deserving ribbon. I loved this shot and gave it a 9. I love your story behind the photo. I guess I am the opposite of you...you carefully think about every shot and you only took 14. I would have taken 314! I need to learn from you to think more carefully in these situations. Great work!
oh wow, where do i even begin?!??
this is simply amazing.
firstly, i LOVE the colours. <3
yep, who doesnt?
the pastel and dreamy feeling as u'v mentioned....
the bright and cheery feel.
i can feel the fog; i can feel the weather then.
great job.
also, the composition is gd.
not forgetting the square crop too!! ;)
i feel that u'v utilised the square crop very well in this.
think u captured it at the perfect moment as well:
with the boy's playful expression, that little jump, and the birds flying away from him.
all is too wonderful for words.
i fell in love at first sight with this photograph.
great job. :D
The first thing that caught my eye (as with many others from what I have read) is the beautiful pastel colors. So serene and calming. I also love the emotion you've captured with this shot. The look on the child's face is so telling. This is a blue in my book and marking as a fav.
WOW!!! This is such an awesome shot! I love the light colors of the beach to the dark contrast of the young boy. The composition rocks. Couldn't get any more perfect than this. I wanna go play too. Congrats!
One of my absolute favorites of the challenge. The subdued colors of everything except the child just draws the eye right to him. I enjoy photos like this the most, just wonderful moments captured in time, photos that just spill over with some sort of emotion. In this case, the sheer joy of an innocent child. Perfect crop! bumping to a 10
One of my ribbon picks -- captured all the colors of the sea shore with the pop of color on your subject. Square crop works well (perhaps a bit less white border??) really like the misty feel throughout.
The square crop is perfect here and you've caught this moment wonderfully! The viewers eye moves between the boy and the flying birds... yet still catches the birds who are all sitting and watching. Well done! One of my favorites from this challenge!
nice capture. I would have like to see the photo without the little one. ONly because the soft tones at the beach with the soft tones of the birds are so beautiful.
ohhh, that is so beautiful ! The color composition is sublime, and it's one of those picture you can't stop looking at. I can't find anything wrong with it and it's a 10 from me ...
great emotion, and almost great exposure, great ballance and composition, the sky is so bleak though, i do think it works because the child's outfit is so bright, very good photograph
Very nice work. Strong understanding of the demands of the format, great tonality, good detail and good action. The most interesting shot so far, for me.
I love the energy and joy of this photo.
Great composition with these birds, the layers of sky-water-beach-water-beach and the soft sky and beach colors vs the hard colors of the boy(?). 10
Nice muted tones in the water and sky making the child really stand out. Love the fact that you captured the movement of the child, it adds life to the photo.
Wonderful composition! Works great in the square. I love the boys pose. I like how the how image is mostly the same tones, expect the boy who stands out in bold colors. Very fun shot. It made me smile.
