Wow - thanks, everyone! I do want to acknowledge that I know that this is not how snails reproduce. Everyone knows they prefer the missionary position. :-) But I couldn't resist entering this in the "lust" category. Also, no snails were harmed in this challenge entry.
The story behind this shot is that I was trying to take a picture of several snails in a row, like a kind of snail family vacation. That shot is here:
But the second snail kept climbing up on top of the first one, so I figured I should get some shots of that too. They can move surprisingly fast, especially when you're trying to set up a photo.
Oh, and for the surface, I needed something white that wouldn't show wet trails from the snails moving around, so this is an upside-down Corningware dish. I scrubbed it thoroughly afterward, but if you ever come to my house and I serve a casserole -- well, you've been warned.

Snails are asexual .. they don't need each other for this. Nice shot.
Actually snails are hermaphrodites - all are both male and female, they mate using a "harpoon" on a cord which goes into the other snail's side through the skin - OUCH!
Both snails send the harpoons and both lay eggs. I was lucky enough to see it once in my front garden....
Love the photo, it expresses the concept in a very humourous way and funnily enough better than a true life shot of snails mating would have.
Wow, Philip - now I know why you weren'y entering challnges recently - it was just so that you could muster up the Blue Ribbon winner energy. Congratulations.
Congratulations Phillip. You disappeared for so long that I thought maybe you'd given up on photography. When you come back you come back strong! Way to go.
Congratulations. Got a kick out of this image when I saw it and I gave it a 10 as well so I was pleased to see it win the blue. Always like to have proof that I have the good taste that I think I do, lol. Great Job!
Snails... I must say I didn't expect to come across any snails in this challenge. Great composition, love those little antennae sticking out. Well done all around, and creative and unique to top it all off. One of my top picks from the challenge. Well done! :)
By far the best picture I've voted on in this challange and I'm at 62% now. I can't think of anything that could have been done better so all I can say is good luck, I hope this picture ribbons.
ROFL did you put one confused snail ontop of the other? Nice detail and nice clean background but I'm not sure Mr Top Guy is going to get anywhere through Mr Bottom Guy's shell! :o)
