Inspired by Kevyn Major Howard at www.headshot-photographer.com. I did a lot of post processing to try and capture his effect, but I don't quite think I got it. I think it could be the background.
This is a photo of my beautiful girlfriend, Jodie. She's never let me take a proper photo of her before because she says, and I quote, "I'm so un-photogenic"! How far from the truth could that be?
I might be biased but I love this photo! I've never really done portraits before so I found it hard telling her how to pose and things, but I think in the end this shot was definately my favourite.
Taken with my handy-dandy Canon 50mm f/2.5 Compact Macro lens using natural window light. I used f/2.5 to get a nice shallow DoF and soft focus effect (which I enhanced in Photoshop admittedly) but I think maybe f/2.5 was slightly too shallow since only one eye is in sharp focus. Anyway, I hope you enjoy Jodie's gorgeousness as much as I do!

the warm, soft tones match, along with the soft focus, what it sounds like you were going for: a warm, loving tribute to a girl you find to be worthy of such treatment. She should be pleased with the "photogenic" result.
She is indeed stunning and this truly is a great portrait... I'm glad you knocked the highlights on her skin down too - evens the tones out wonderfully. I think you should print this nice and big and frame it for your desk or wall. Surely she's changed her mind about being unphotogenic now?
Ben I don't know why, but I just knew this was yours. It can't be that I recognized Jodie's face just from your portfolio image or is it somehow your own style? Perhaps you have shown some pics in the chat once. Doesn't really matter.
I am a bit surprised that it finished 111th, because I thought it was a very nice portrait. Everything is in kind of sweet soft tones and light but the eyes stand out so well with that hard blue.
I love this portrait. The shallow DOF used in this image truly enhances and emphasizes her eyes that are just utterly stunning and sharp. Lovely model and great 3/4 angle of your POV. Great job!
I'm not sure to whom the tribute is, but it's a nice photograph of a lovely subject. I'll assume having only the one eye in true focus is part of the artist's style.
FOr me this is so close to great...I have a problem with the eyes...it looks as if ther has been some odd burning ... and I have no idea who you are emulating...But a lovely shot none the less
Who is this in tribute to? It seems to me the name of the photographer who is being emmulated should appear somewhere in the title since that is part of the challenge. It's impossible for me to evaluate this in terms of the challenge guidelines since I am not a mind reader. On its own, you've captured nice sparkle and color in her eyes. I don't care for the extremely shallow DOF in combination with the blown out highlights. Frankly, I don't see the asthetic value of obscuring most of the subject's features. Most of her nose disappears into her face which is unsettling.
What makes this one of the best images in this challene is the shallow focus combined with the perfect focus on the right side eye. High technical quality.
Part of the fun of the challenge is comparing the photos to the work of the photographers they're paying tribute to. I can't figure out who that would be in this case. Lovely girl. Nice focus on the eyes. Good range of color and light levels.
