Most famous for “Le Baiser” or The Kiss, Robert Doisneau's photographs are said to project a realism that makes for a wonderful record of both style and lifestyle. He liked to refer to himself as a "pecheur d'images," a fisher of images (the "3 secs of eternity"). He immersed himself in his surroundings where he waited to catch the right shot. As one of the most famous French photographers of his day, Doisneau relied on his intuition rather than rational thinking. He took pictures based on his instinct at the moment they occurred. And this was how he captured a Paris largely away from the tourist traps and glitz, a Paris of the ordinary workingman or woman.
Doisneau writes of his photography, "In fact there isn't any recipe - that would be too easy - but all these images that are growing old so gracefully were taken instinctively. I put all my trust in intuition, which contributes so much more than rational thought.”

I think you captured the "3 secs of eternity" well, but there are technical issues with the picture that Doisneau may have been master enough to handle on the fly. The composition is both good and bad. The seat and passenger frame our subject nicely, but they also command a huge portion of the frame without adding anything. The seat is blase and the guy with the jacket is more or less black. Doisneau's The Kiss also managed to transport us to a place where we wanted to be. Look, love springs eternal on the streets of Paris. I want to be there. I'm not quite sure we want to be reading the paper on a commute to that dead-end job. ;)
I assume a tribute to Doisneau. I don't sense a story the way I do from Doisneau, but it's still a good photo. Exciting composition. The subject is the photographer as much as it is anyone else.
I like the splash of color in the pants and hat of the gentleman in the background. Even the red in the sign further back. Great composition. An eye-catcher
