The vignetting and shadowed eye sockets are distracting. Placing something light colored just below the camera would help to bounce light back onto his face, which would help the latter problem. The image would be more appealing if it weren't so heavily sharpened. The relationship of the image to the challenge topic feels rather forced.
Oooooooh. . .my favorite kind of picture. That 3-d sharp portrait of African people that show the character radiating out of their face. I love it! Love it!
