I'm told that this is a rare Rutieman's Heron. It must be rare because I can't find any reference to it so that I can't verify the spelling. It looks similiar to a Great Blue Heron, but more colorful and striking. I was surprised at how close I could approach this bird, I didn't have to crop the image at all.
Update: I have finally confirmed that this is a Wurdemann's Heron, essentially a Great Blue Heron except for the white head.

Nice detail that's sharp without looking sharpened. The only thing I see that would improve this IMO is if the background was more out of focus. Really that's not even big a deal. The only area that bothers me a bit is the green leaf at the top that has some detail on it's edges that takes some of the focus away.
I think a shallower DoF to blur the background slightly more would put extra emphasis on the bird, as would a slight contrast increase perhaps? I just feel it is missing something at the moment.
