Hi, as requested, here is an indepth critique of your submission.
First Impression - the most important one: Very good post-process treatment of the bright yellow flower against the dark, dull road.
Composition: Your composition is actually pretty strong. But, for this challenge, I want to see the road a bit more. At least give me edges or something to let me know it's a road and not just an asphault covered backdrop.
Subject: Subject is very clear and I love the yellow against the black.
Technical (Colour, focus, and light): Color is wonderful, focus is sharp.
Lighting seems a bit flat to me though. I'd like to see more dramatic shadows in the flower.
To grow its vote?: Well, for this challenge, I expect the voters wanted to see more of the road, than just the flower lying in it. Had this photo been in another challenge, I'd give you a shot at top 25, maybe higher.
Summary: Great photo, very well executed. But, perhaps you overthought the challenge and tried to be too unique.
I don't think that a road plays any role in this shot. If you included at least some drama, like the road mark-up, as an indication that the flower can be run-over by a car, I could buy it, but as it is, it serves as a nice texture, but not as part of the photograph. The shot is nice, though.
